water filtration system

Since we aim to provide a better way of living for these villages, we have decided to provide a water filtration system as these people often do not have access to clean water. According to UNICEF, around 289,000 children under the age of five die of diseases that arise from dirty water every year. We plan to change this.

We have chosen this filtration machine as not only is it the lightest filter, it offers the highest level of filtration. The Sawyer PointOne Filter can be easily packed and stashed into one of the pockets in The Jungle Box, which makes the gadget easy to use and convenient.

This water filtration gadget removes bacteria along with salmonella, cholera, and e. coli. It also removes "99.9% of all protoza", such as giardia and cryptosporidium.

Inside the package also contains a manual which provides instructions on how to use and how to clean the filter properly. Since this filtration system is durable, it can be used to filter drinking water for the entire village for a long period of time.

This bodes well for our project, as we intend to improve living conditions for villagers along with helping to cure them of diseases. starting by safe drinking water.

Recently, we have received donation of water filters from the BMW Care4water Foundation to be delivered to villages suffering from flood along the Salween River in Myanmar.  We  also planned to target water filters distribution to 1,000 villages worldwide by the end of 2019.

SAWYER PointONE FILTER WITH BUCKET ADAPTER KIT AND
1 FT HOSE

Using technology taken from kidney dialysis, Sawyer® water filters use Hollow Fiber Membranes. The filters are comprised of tiny “U” shaped micro tubes that allow water to enter into their core through tiny micro pores. The PointOne Filter pores are so small (0.1 micron absolute) that no bacteria, protozoa, or cysts like E.Coli, Cholera and Typhoid can get through. At 7 log (99.99999%) the filter attains the highest level of filtration available today and yet it has a very high flow rate due to the large amount of tubes. Each filter is certified for ABSOLUTE microns. That means there will be no pore size larger than 0.1 microns in the biological filter Simply put, it is impossible for bacteria to pass through the 0.1 micron filter.

The kit includes a complete set of parts and tools  ready for attaching the filter to any plastic bucket or container.

SET UP INSTRUCTION:

Step 1: Verify Assembly Kit Contents

A -1 Filter adapter and hose

B -1 hole cutter

C -1 cleaning plunger (syringe)

D -1 Filter hanger

Step 2: Find a Clean Bucket

Do not use a bucket or pail that previously stored poisonous chemicals. If possible, bucket should be food grade i.e.should have had a food product in it before.

Step 3: Drill a Hole in the Bucket

Power drill not required. This can be done by hand. Drill a 22 mm Hole in the side of the bucket by twisting the hole cutter about 38 mm from the bottom of the bucket. This height will help prevent sediment from entering the filter.

Make sure to deburr the hole (make sure that the hole is as smooth and clean as possible) in the bucket to avoid the potential of leaking.

Step 4: Prepare the Adapter

Unscrew the plastic nut from the male thread and remove the outer seal ring, leaving the inner seal ring on the male thread.

Step 5: Install the Male Adapter

Insert the male adapter through outside of the bucket with the smaller of the seal ring towards the bucket.

Step 6: Reattach the Female Adapter

Reattach the seal ring and nut on the inside of the bucket with the smaller of the seal ring facing the bucket. Tighten the nut until you get a good seal that will not leak.

Step 7: Filtering Water

Add water to the bucket and lower the filter head below the bottom of the bucket to start the flow. The greater the distance between the filter and the top of the water line, the faster the water will flow. Always filter water into a clean receptacle.

Step 8: Stopping the Flow

Raise the filter above the bucket to stop the filter water flow. When not in use, place the filter in the hanger and hang on side of the bucket.
